Those were fun. I loved the Burger Chef sign and, yes, the Ponderosa. The poor man's steakhouse. But it was good!

Nice pics- my family was in that area all of the time. When my Grandma came into town from Ohio, she liked that Fabric World. I think there was a Fayva shoes in there at one point too. Anyway, thanks- nice to see it all again.

Yes, fantastic pictures.
As a transplanted Pannsylvanian for lo, these 11 years, I didn;t even KNOW we USED to have a PONDEROSA down here...

Then again, we USED to ALSO have a RICHARDS...
And a Hardees...
And an MCL Cafeteria...
And a Sbarros...
And a TARGET...
And a Kohls...

Well, you get the idea.

Guess we can thank section 8 and HUD housing (along w/ the crime that followed) for all our "improvements" down here (now) from those wonderful pictures you brought us of a much better time.

Kristina, I have really enjoyed your blog. I grew up in southern IN but moved to FW in '89 for a teaching job. I've seen it change a lot in those years, and have enjoyed your commentaries on its past (and on your own, since we're about the same age). Keep up the good work!
